Licenses Needed to Organize an Event in India

To run an event smoothly and legally in India, you need to get a few important licenses. These licenses may change depending on the type of event.

The venue manager usually shares a list of required licenses for your event. All licenses must be submitted at least 24 hours before the event. The list of licenses can be different for different kinds of events.

For example, let’s say you are organizing a private corporate event for company employees. There are no sponsors or ticket sales. The event includes an award ceremony, live music, and a DJ party. Even in this case, some licenses are still required.

Common Licenses Needed:

  1. IPRS License – Needed if you play music written by songwriters or composers.
  2. PPL License – Required if recorded songs are played at the event.
  3. NOVEX License – Needed for playing songs managed by Novex.
  4. ISRA License – Needed if performances by artists like singers or musicians are used.
  5. RMPL License – Required for using publicly played music from different rights holders.
  6. Excise License – Needed if alcohol is served at the event.
  7. PWD (Public Works Department) License – Needed if you are using a generator (genset) at the venue.
